Dr Lucy Ferguson has been the gender consultant of the Ethics and Social Dimensions of Tourism programme at UNWTO since May 2010. During this time, she has helped develop strategy for the tourism industry and edited the Global Report on Women in Tourism 2010. In June 2012, Lucy went to Nigeria to deliver the opening and closing address at the UNWTO Commission for Africa Technical Seminar on Opportunities for Women and Youth in Tourism. This involved arguing for the importance of the fair and equal inclusion of women in the rapidly developing African tourism industry. She has consistently advocated for UNWTO to take gender equality seriously in all its activities and for resources to be dedicated to this area as a matter of priority.
