Water worries – new article by Stroma Cole

Stroma Cole recently presented her paper on intersectional feminist political ecology of tourism and water in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia at the 2017 Development Studies Association conference in Bradford, UK. Building on her numerous years of life and research in the country, she explores how tourism impacts the water resources of the region – and how these are, in turn, influenced by gendered socio-political dynamics. The analysis unpicks how patriarchal cultural norms, ethnicity, socio-economic status, life-stage and proximity to water sources are intertwined to (re)produce gendered power relations.
