Women & empowerment in Nicaragua – a report by our director

One of our directors, Daniela Moreno Alarcón, has been active in Nicaragua for many years and has reported on her research and work there extensively. Her report ‘Empowerment Approach in Tourism: The Voices of Nicaraguan Women‘ was origignally published in London for the Central America Women’s Network, and has now been repurposed for an Albasud project called ‘Treball decent, turisme responsable i empoderament de les dones‘ (Catalan; ‘Decent work, responsible tourism and empowerment of women’ in English). The summary of this extensive report is now available for free on the Albasud website and makes for a great read (if you can read Spanish, that is!). It delves into the key challenges faced by Nicaraguan women, and outlines efforts undertaken to ensure equitable and sustainable development of tourism and the wider economy.
