Sarah Becklake

Sarah has a PhD in Sociology from Lancaster University and is currently a Post-Doctoral Researcher in the Institute for Sociology at Leibniz University Hannover, where she teaches on the global politics of mobilities, security, and development. Sarah has over 15-years academic experience theorising, investigating, and interrogating the global tourism system. To date, her empirical research has primarily focused on how the intersecting inequalities of gender, race, and class shape everyday practices of touristic competition and touristic security in the context of Latin America, and the wider consequences of this for touristed places and peoples. Her research has been published in various academic journals, such as Geopolitics, Tourism Geographies, Globalizations, Conflict, Security, and Development, and Space and Culture, and edited volumes. Sarah’s most current research project seeks to provide an alternative and gender-sensitive understanding and approach to the tourism-security-development nexus.
